Algae are a very large and diverse group of eukaryotic organisms. There are many different types of algae, and as of late, these types are being incorporated into the diets of people worldwide. (Wikipedia, nd).

Allergy Alert:

Occasionally, an allergic reaction may occur when consuming algae, either orally or by touching it. As many types of algae exist, check with your allergist if an allergic reaction does occur in the presence of algae.

Common Uses:

Naturally growing seaweeds are an important source of food, especially in Asia. They provide many vitamins including: A, B1, B2, B6, niacin and C, and are rich in iodine, potassium, iron, magnesium and calcium (Wikipedia, nd).
