Some Thoughts For You:

Typically squeezing is used to obtain the juices of ingredients such as lemons, limes, and oranges. Some people prefer squeezing their own juice since they can be assured that it is as fresh as possible, plus it has a rewarding taste to it after all of your hard work. There are numerous techniques to obtaining juice, ranging from simple kitchen tools to high-end appliences. However, for getting a bit of juice for a recipe, you won’t need more than a pair of tongs or a citrus squeezer.

What You Will Need:

As suggested above, if you are squeezing a basic ingredient such as a lemon or lime, you will only need a citrus squeezer/press and a bowl to catch the juice in.

If you are squeezing your own juice, you might want to look into a high-end electric squeezer to avoid hand cramps (it takes a while to build up a glass of juice using conventional methods).

Basic Steps:

Here’s some steps on how to squeeze a lime or a lemon.

  1. Cut the lemon in half and place one half in the citrus squeezer. Place a bowl underneath where you will be using the citrus squeezer. Keep the cut end facing down to avoid spraying juice and to maximize the juice that comes out.
  2. Press down slowly but firmly, continuing until no more juice comes out of the lemon half.
  3. Repeat with the second half.

Tips For You:

  • Remember that it may take a few tries to get all of the juice you need! Plan ahead by buying more than you think you need of the ingredient.
